We begin with a brief chat, in person or over the phone, to discuss ideas, colors, and how you’d like the space to feel. Is there a mood you’re trying to convey? A message? Is there a specific memory you’re trying to conjure? It is helpful at this point to come armed with any images or items that might help inform your dream. I’m trying to get a feel for what kind of person you are and what I can weave into the concept that would excite you and complement the rest of your space. If I’m able to, I take measurements and photos of the area to be painted at this time. If I’m unable to, I require any room plans or photos you are able to provide me with. This process might take more than one meeting.
I then produce a design concept and a pricing quote as part of a proposal. Once accepted, I ask for a downpayment and we get to work! The design might go through a few more iterations before we land on something final. I then finalize the palette and collect materials including paint, supplies, drop cloths, stools, ladders, etc.
Scheduling: Depending on the scale of the project, I will either work alone or bring on a fellow artist to help me complete the work in a reasonable amount of time. Projects I have completed so far have all ranged from 1-3 days of work.
Pricing: Pricing varies widely due to the unique nature of this work. Small projects might start around $600. Whole rooms might range from $2,000 - $6,000. The design really dictates the cost.
I truly love the challenge of building out a design for a very specific wall or walls, and I believe in the power of some tins of paint to change not only how a room looks, but how it makes the people inside of it feel.
