The New England coastline is known for its unpredictable weather. A sunny, clear morning, can make way to a foggy afternoon, and a stormy morning can clear up by lunchtime, showing off crisp blue skies. This painting was made after a coastal stroll in overcast weather turned rapidly into a rainstorm. The wind whipped up foam on the water and scattered seeds from the wild grasses that grew along the shore. Temperatures were deceivingly warm, but we knew we didn’t have long before we would be caught in a downpour!
