In my opinion, some of the most beautiful days by the sea are those that are overcast or foggy. The weather lends itself to cozying up under a warm towel and feeling the sticky air whip your hair across your face. The beach is empty, so those who are brave enough to venture down to it (or who are lucky enough to live close to it) get to enjoy the view all to themselves. This painting was born of daydreams about days like that. Days that are typically followed by sweatshirts and warm drinks or soup, and maybe a game of cards on the porch. A truly nostalgic, familiar day for New Englanders, and perhaps for coastal dwellers of all kinds from all places!
